Maserati Breaks Norms Again with the MC20 Cielo

The 2023 Maserati MC20 Cielo on the road.

How is the Maserati MC20 Cielo Unique?

Supercars, by their very nature, are rare. Maserati is once again defying the luxury platform status quo by introducing an alternate version of its halo platform, the MC20 Cielo. So, how is the Maserati MC20 Cielo different? The most obvious difference between the two MC20 versions is the Cielo’s convertible spyder layout with an electrically retractable glass roof. The MC20 Cielo is only marginally heavier than its full-time hardtop version, meaning that it will retain the platform’s impressive weight-to-power ratio. Let’s take a closer look at a few more exciting details about the MC20 Cielo.

One-of-a-Kind Retractable Glass Roof

The MC20 Cielo features what Maserati calls, a ‘first of its kind’ glass convertible top. Not only is the glass roof the largest in the segment, measuring 5,268 cubic-centimetres, but passengers can also change the top’s opacity. This means that, with the touch of a button, the glass top can be clear to let in natural light, or just as easily darkened to keep intrusive sunlight at bay. In addition to the glass top being ground-breaking technology on every level, it also sets new industry standards for controlling the interior’s climate more efficiently and eliminating intrusive road noise.

Racing-Inspired Interior Features

Maserati vehicles are born from racecars. That competitive legacy is reflected in many of the MC20 Cielo’s interior features. The most obvious racing-inspired element is the spyder’s steering, designed with input from a former world champion driver. Maserati ended up stripping the steering wheel of unnecessary clutter, keeping the most important switches and buttons, including a button for ignition and another to activate the car’s launch control system. Additionally, the driver will be able to quickly work through the transmission’s eight gears using large paddle shifters mounted to the steering column.

2023 Maserati MC20 Cielo Performance

A vehicle as special as the 2023 Maserati MC20 Cielo requires an equally special powertrain. A twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre, six-cylinder engine is under the meticulously sculpted hood and it is attached to an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission. It will make 621 horsepower and 538 pound-feet of torque. These are blistering numbers by any stretch of the imagination. However, we can see just how impressive the Cielo’s capability is when we look at some of its track times.

Maserati has timed the MC20 Cielo accelerating from 0-100 km/h in about three seconds. It can go from 0-200 km/h in just over nine seconds and hit a top speed of more than 320 km/h.
